Setting Up and Managing a Blog in Webey
Set up a blog with content types, write and optimize blog posts, and manage your publishing workflow.
A blog is a powerful tool for attracting visitors to your website, showcasing your expertise, and improving your search engine rankings. In Webey, you can easily set up a blog using the content type system. In this article, you will learn how to create, manage, and optimize blog posts.
The Blog Content Type
In Webey, a blog is a content type — a structured collection with predefined fields. The blog content type is specifically designed for articles and contains all the fields you need for professional blog posts. You can find the blog content type in the dashboard under Content.
Creating a Blog Post
To write a new blog post, navigate to the blog content type and click "New item". You will see a form with all available fields. Fill in the fields and save the post as a draft until you are ready to publish.
Blog Fields in Detail
Each blog post in Webey has the following fields:
- Title — the heading of your article. Choose a compelling title that summarizes the content and sparks interest.
- Excerpt (summary) — a short description of 1-2 sentences that is shown in the blog overview and in search results.
- Content — the full text of your article. Use the rich text editor to add headings, lists, links, and formatting.
- Author — the name of the writer. This is displayed with the article and helps build personal authority.
- Image — the featured image shown at the top of the article and in the overview. Choose a relevant, high-resolution image.
- Category — the category the article belongs to. Categories help visitors find related articles.
- Tags — keywords that describe the article. Tags offer an additional way to organize and filter content.
- Publication date (publishedAt) — the date the article was published. Articles are sorted by publication date by default, newest first.
- Read time (readTime) — an indication of how long it takes to read the article, for example "5 min." This helps visitors decide whether to read the article now or later.
Blog List Page vs. Detail Page
Your blog needs two types of pages:
- The blog list page — an overview page that displays all published blog posts with their title, excerpt, image, and publication date. Visitors click on a post to read the full article.
- The blog detail page — the page that displays an individual article with all content, the author, tags, and related articles.
In Webey, these pages are automatically generated based on your blog content type. You do not need to create them manually — the system creates the list and detail views for you.
SEO for Blog Posts
Blog posts are one of the most important tools for driving organic traffic to your website. Optimize each post for search engines:
- Use relevant keywords in your title, excerpt, and content. Place the most important keyword in the title and the first paragraph.
- Write a compelling meta description that appeals to visitors in search results.
- Use headings (h2, h3) to structure your content. Search engines use headings to understand the content of your article.
- Add alt texts to all images in your content.
- Link to other pages on your website to strengthen the internal link structure.
- Choose a descriptive slug — use words instead of numbers or codes.
Tips for Writing Blog Posts
Good blog content is informative, scannable, and actionable. Keep these tips in mind:
- Write for your audience — know your reader and adjust your tone and level accordingly.
- Lead with the most important point — put the core message in the first paragraph.
- Use short paragraphs — online readers scan text. Paragraphs of 2-3 sentences work best.
- Add visual elements — images, screenshots, and bullet points make your content more engaging.
- End with a call-to-action — tell the reader what the next step is.
Publishing Workflow
Use the status workflow to manage your blog posts. Write your post as a draft, have it reviewed by a colleague (status pending), and publish after approval (status approved). This ensures consistent quality, especially when working with multiple writers.
Content Planning
A successful blog requires regular publications. Plan your content ahead:
- Create a content calendar with topics for the coming weeks or months
- Alternate between different types of content: how-tos, news, analyses, and interviews
- Publish consistently — one good article per week is better than five rushed posts
- Use categories to keep your blog organized
- Repurpose popular content by writing updates or follow-up articles
With a well-configured blog in Webey, you build a valuable source of information for your visitors while simultaneously improving your position in search engines.
